Hail Season!

Well it is officially that time of year again, Storm Season! This warm and very wet spring we have had so far in the Midwest also brings the chances of big storms. We need to be prepared for what to do in case your roof is damaged by wind or hail. Today we are going to talk about what some of the signs are and what to do if you see damage or need repair.

Firstly, let’s talk about hail. Hail is very destructive and you might not always be able to tell right away that you have damage. On shingles you will often see a dark spot with granular loss. This leads to a compromised shingle. It no longer has the life and strength it should. You might see damage on the gutters, vents, or even a satellite dish on your roof as well.  If you know your area was hit by hail it is a good idea to give Vita Roofing a call and have one of our professional team members come out and provide you with a free inspection and help walk you through the insurance process.

Now, let's talk about wind, here in the upper midwest we have no shortage of it. When these big storms come through we can see winds in excess of 70 mph, enough to tear off shingles, lift metal panels, or break seams on TPO and EPDM roofs. This will expose your roof to water damage very quickly and can lead to more severe damage underneath if not fixed quickly.
