EPDM Cricket
Challenge
This customer had a low sloping portion of their roof that was having leaking issues. This is commonly referred to as a "cricket". Where 3 slopes run into a lower sloped area or single valley. It was prone to holding snow and having serious ice damming. It was originally shingled and was installed incorrectly.
Solution
Our solution to this was to tear off the old shingles and reinstall with EPDM rubber membrane. EPDM is a asphalt based product that bonds well with the tar on the shingles. Creating a seamless barrier in the cricket. This allows for water to run off more efficiently so you do not have ice build up. During heavy snow years, snow is able to sit there with out the concern of melting and running underneath the shingles. These areas are often over looked and you often won't know there is severe damage until it is too late!
